Yest another council in Ontario has voted to ask Ontario to put a halt to wind turbine developments, in recognition of the health effects being experienced by residents in other Ontario communities where turbines are already up and operating.

According to an article in today’s Collingwood Enterprise-Bulletin, Clearview Township Mayor Ken Ferguson said the motion passed with little discussion because of “all the concerns of the residents. … [We’re] looking to protect the health and safety of all residents.”

The mayor noted that the Green Energy Act has removed the ability of municipalities to plan for their own communities and to protect citizens’ health and safety. he said he doesn’t like the fact that the province can dictate to local residents.

Three more wind farms are proposed for Clearview Township, close to Creemore. Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson echoed residents’ concerns and applauded the council’s motion. (This past week, Wilson stood up in the Ontario Legislature and demanded the province listen to the councils’ decison throughout Ontario.)

Creemore is an 170-year-old village, known for its Ontario quaintness; it has also attracted many Toronto residents to buy vacation properties, as it is only a 90-minute drive from the big city. Pictured here are the Creemore Hills.
